Melissa May

~Melissa May~
(Aka @barefoot.alaskan )
This is one of the most courageous spontaneous people I know! Melissa is the queen of world traveling. She packed her backpack, camera, and got on a plane to go travel for months at a time to experience life and new cultures. Jumping from hostel to hostel she has been to 29 different countries and documented her trips on a new Instagram account (@barefoot.alaskan.) One day (I’ve been bugging her,) she will start a blog posting all her destinations and how she stayed on the road for months at a time on a strict budget. Traveling isn’t an easy thing to do, but as Melissa says, you find out so much about yourself and really grow as a person. The “Travel Bug” is a healthy bug to have!

What’s your food Motto?

“My food motto is mostly a plant based diet- I eat a TON of veggies but also eat a good amount of halibut & salmon! I am always making lots of different veggie bowl combos. For the most part I really focus on eating whole foods “

What’s your pre-workout meal?

“Before I workout I love to toast some organic seed bread with a little almond butter, a drizzle of honey, sliced banana, and unsweetened coconut shavings. Just enough to keep me full & fueled for a workout!”

Inspiration for planning meals?

“I am pretty bad at planning meals, but I also always have a pretty fully stocked fridge so I usually just throw whatever veggies I have and sauté them up and add some spices and will either use black beans or chickpea pasta for protein. Or I’ll just look up a recipe on some of my favorite health accounts on insta!”

Why do you value nutrition?

“I value nutrition because I feel so much healthier and so full of energy when I am consuming foods that help make me feel good.”

What was your motivation to start eating healthy?

“I’ve always eaten a very healthy diet but I’ve learned a lot more about nutrition in the last couple of months. For the most part I really eat whole foods. I especially pay a lot more attention to the ingredients that are in food labels and where my food is coming from. I am really focusing on consuming food that helps make me stay full & makes me feel well nourished!”
